Ethics and Sustainability
We believe that working transparently is the way forward and endeavour to keep improving our processes to best represent our beliefs.
The jewellery industry has a murky reputation and there is lots of conflicting advice on how is best to change this. With this in mind, Behind Bracken commits to consistently learn, challenge and improve our processes.
Behind Bracken is an ambassador of Fairtrade Gold and this can be used upon customer request. We use recycled metals for some of our pieces of jewellery at the minute and are looking forward to increasing that across all pieces in the next couple of months.
All pieces are designed to last and are made from solid precious metals. We do not work with plated or vermeil gold.
We work with trusted gemstone dealers who have close links with reputable mines and where they are confident about the conditions. Certified stones can be purchased upon request, as can imitation diamonds.
All jewellery is made and finished by Ashley in either her home Edinburgh workshop or in the Glasgow workshop she is currently resident at.
The only process that is outsourced is casting. This is carried out by an expert company in Birmingham.
We recently updated our postage and packaging materials- our cardboard jewellery boxes are made from recycled materials and are able to be recycled aside from the small foam insert which we are researching replacement options for. Postage boxes, packing material and Kraft tape are all able to be recycled.
We are always open to discussing processes and materials, as well as suggestions in ways we can improve. Drop us an email if you have any queries or recommendations.
